Ancient Shoreline

While I was making this basket I was thinking about how old the piece of petrified wood must be that I was using in the base of this basket. It felt good to be coiling around something that must be hundreds, if not thousands, of years old and giving it new life. After searching for petrified wood on the internet, I found out that the state gem for the state of Washington just happens to be petrified wood. Even though it isn't a gemstone at all, but it kind of looks like one when it is tumbled and polished. I also discovered that on several occasions that I have driven past one of the biggest petrified forests in the nation. I will definitely have to stop and take a look around the next time I happen go by. Ginkgo Petrified Forest State Park in Vantage, Washington has over fifty species of petrified wood found there. I am not sure what kind of wood that my base is, but it is beautiful and has aged very well!

I made my "Ancient Shoreline" basket using dyed dark brown Longleaf pine needles, sweetgrass, dark brown artificial sinew, dark olive green starfish lava beads and a petrified wood center base. This basket measures 6-3/4" x 7-1/2" x 3-1/4".
ENJOY!
