Indian Basket Search
Whenever I visit a new place I like to look for locally made baskets and learn about their history. It always fascinates me at how many different kinds of basket weavers there are in the world and the history behind their art. This trip introduced me to just a small glimpse of the Indian basketry of the Southwest. I enjoyed seeing baskets from the Agua Caliente Cahuilla Indians that settled in the Palm Springs area. I also like to bring a basket home as a fun reminder of my trip. I purchased a beautiful Western red cedar basket made by a nice local couple at a street fair in Palm Springs and a reproduction of a Southwestern basket made in Pakistan in Yuma. Everywhere I went the shops all carried baskets from Pakistan that resembled the local tribes weaving patterns and style, but I couldn't find locally made Indian baskets for sale. Oh well, still a fun reminder of my trip and a wonderful reminder of the beautiful desert and our fun trip! Enjoy!

Beautiful baskets....but you are not moving to the desert! :)
ReplyDeleteNo, I'm not moving to the desert, but it would be a nice place to go for a few months in the winter:)
