"Just living is not enough,"
said the butterfly,
"one must have sunshine,
freedom and a little flower."
-Hans Christian Andersen
While I was making this basket, I was thinking about Monarch butterflies. They are one of the most colorful butterflies with their brilliant orange-red wings with black lines and white spots. I love to watch them fluttering around the sky and landing on flowers in my garden. One of the greatest occurrences in the natural world is when they instinctively fly thousands of miles south to migrate for the winter. I would love to see this amazing site in person someday, but for now, I will just be happy that I captured some of their magic and beauty in my pine needle basket.
"Wings Of Change"
I made my "Wings Of Change" pine needle basket using dyed dark brown and yellow Longleaf pine needles. I used dark brown artificial sinew and coiled in sweetgrass on the inside of the basket. I added two rows of Czech glass fall day leaf drop beads around the top. The lovely colorful sunflower and butterfly wood burned (pyrography) and hand ink dye painted wood base really brought the basket to life. This basket is 6" round x 2-1/2" tall.
ENJOY!
