Pine Needle Basketry by Vicki Phillips

Sunny Day

We have been having an amazing sunny summer in the Pacific Northwest, except in late June when we had a heat wave with over 100 degree temperatures for three days in a row. Summer usually doesn't get nice until after the Fourth of July and we have many gray and drizzly days until then. We often call it June gloom, but not this year. After the challenging year that we have all been through, it is nice to feel like we are finally coming out on the sunny side of life!

I made my "Sunny Day" pine needle basket using natural brown Longleaf pine needles that were baked in a glycerin bath, olive green Irish waxed linen thread, two sizes of yellow round jade beads and a beautiful lampwork bead with a sunny clear window and a cherry tree in front centered inside a wooden hoop that was wrapped in olive green Irish waxed linen thread.

This basket measures 10-1/4" round by 1-3/4" tall.
ENJOY!
