Sea Garden

One of my favorite places to walk to when I lived on the Oregon Coast was to the marine gardens in Otter Rock. This special rocky area with amazing tidepools was always fun and exciting to go to, because you never knew what you would find or see. The colorful variety of sea urchins, sea anemones, starfish, seaweed, crabs, fish, seals, sea lions, birds and other sea creatures and plants were always fun to look at. On occasion I would even find a glass float or some other interesting thing that had washed ashore. I was happy to see that this special place was designated as a marine reserve in 2012 to help preserve it for future generations and to serve as a scientific research site. While I was making my "Sea Garden" pine needle basket I was thinking of this special place. I used natural green Longleaf pine needles, sweetgrass, dark brown artificial sinew, green sea glass beads and a three-dimensional ammonite fossil base.

Note: The above photos of the marine gardens were taken by the Oregon State Parks Department. The beautiful pottery base was made by Pamela Zimmerman.
