Pine Needle Basketry by Vicki Phillips

Umpqua

This basket was inspired by the Umpqua River Lighthouse and the Umpqua river. My husband and I discovered both of these a few years ago on a camping trip. We fell in love with the Umpqua Lighthouse State Park (click here for more information) and were fortunate to go back again this year. The park is tucked in the trees next to Lake Marie, the Umpqua River Lighthouse and the Oregon Dunes Recreational area. A very beautiful area with amazing views and a lot of fun things to do.

I made my large open "Umpqua" basket with natural brown and dyed dark blue Longleaf pine needles, dark blue artificial sinew, fancy jasper and Chinese jade beads and a three dimensional salmon pottery base. Enjoy!

Note: The gorgeous salmon pottery base was made by Pamela Zimmerman.
