The inspiration for this basket came from sitting in my new favorite summer basket making spot. The view is amazing and overlooks Case Inlet on the Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains in the distance. After looking on a map and asking some of my neighbors, I learned that the mountain peak that I can see from my chair is either The Brothers or Mount Washington. Some neighbors claim that it looks like George Washington's face lying sideways. However, other neighbors claim that it has two peaks, Mount Edward and Mount Arthur, that were named in 1856 by surveyor George Davidson in honor of his future wife's two brothers. It also looks different from different angles. It doesn't really matter which mountain peak it is, because it is beautiful and continues to be a source of inspiration for my basket creations. It wasn't until many years later that I found out that if you keep going past Lena Lake that you eventually end up at The Brothers mountain peaks. Now that my children are grown, maybe they would be excited to try this hike someday...but too challenging for me...funny how things change!! I found this video on YouTube of someone that did this hike...amazing and beautiful!
I made this basket using natural green Long Leaf pine needles, natural and brown artificial sinew, green aventurine bear and round beads and a green agate base. Enjoy!
