Baskets With Bling

A few people have referred to my baskets as "baskets with bling"! I never really thought of them that way, but when you look at them, it is true. Most of the time when I am designing a basket I try to pick out beads that go well with the center base. Also, the stories behind some of the baskets determine what beads I choose.

Raining Tulips was inspired by the red tulips that have come back for over ten years in my garden. I accidentally planted them too deep and they are the only tulips that come back bigger and brighter every year. I now have started to plant all of my tulips "too deep" and have been having great success with all of them. Unfortunately, it is usually raining when the tulips bloom and we have to enjoy them drooped over...thus the name. I used natural green Long Leaf pine needles, red artificial sinew, Czech red tulip pressed glass beads, a red tulip pottery base and a handle stitched with what I call the "tulip stitch" to make this basket.

May Day was inspired by the tradition of secretly hanging a basket of flowers on a friend's door and sneaking away before you get caught on May 1 (aka May Day). I used natural green Long Leaf pine needles, earth tone yellow artificial sinew, Czech pressed glass flower swirl beads, olive jade butterfly beads and a flower pottery base to make this basket.

My latest flower baskets are in celebration of  Spring that has finally arrived in the Pacific Northwest. Enjoy!
