Blue Tulips

Several years ago as I was driving past a local garden center's reader board, I noticed that they were advertising blue tulip bulbs for sale. I had never heard of blue tulips before and didn't even know they existed. I passed this sign several times a day taking my children back and forth to school and other activities and errands and kept thinking about blue tulips every time I passed by. After about a week of driving past the sign, I finally couldn't resist the temptation and stopped and bought a bag of blue tulip bulbs.  I happily went home and planted them in my garden with great anticipation about the beautiful blue tulips that I would get in the spring. When the tulips finally came up I was so excited, however, when they bloomed they were not blue. They were a very bright hot pink! When I went back to the garden center and told the owner what had happened, he was really embarrassed. As I stood telling him about my tulips, I looked around the garden center and noticed hot pink tulips blooming everywhere. I guess the joke was on both of us! I shopped at this garden center a lot over the years and was saddened when they went out of business many years ago. However, the reader board is still there and think of it as "hot pink blue tulip corner" every time I pass by!
I laughed a lot while making this basket, because of the above story. I used natural green Long Leaf pine needles, blue artificial sinew, blue marble swirl Czech pressed glass beads and a blue tulip pottery base to make this basket. Enjoy!

P.S. If anyone finds true blue tulip bulbs for sale, please let me know. I am still gullible and can just imagine the beautiful blue color:)
