Pine Needle Basketry by Vicki Phillips

Two Hearts On A Mountaintop

Once in awhile a special basket project comes together perfectly. This was the case with this basket that I recently made as a wedding gift for my niece and her husband. Well before the wedding, I collaborated with my niece, who is a potter. I asked her to make a pottery basket base of her choice. After getting the base from my niece, I made the basket well before I received the actual invitation to the wedding. I was thrilled to see how the basket matched the theme and colors of her wedding. The couple loves skiing, hiking and adventuring in the mountains together, so the name of this basket is meant as a tribute to them. They got married overlooking the Rocky Mountains of Utah and ate and danced the night away in a amazing glassed-in tent under the stars and a little snow. The whole event was simply magical and filled with so much love and joy. I was honored to be there to witness such a lovely union of two souls coming together as one.

"Two Hearts On A Mountaintop"

I made my "Two Hearts On A Mountaintop" pine needle and sweetgrass basket using longleaf pine needles, sweetgrass, white artificial sinew, amazonite stone heart beads and a beautiful mountain sunset pottery base made by my niece.

CHEERS TO THE COUPLE FOR A
