I recently watched the FireAid benefit concert that was dedicated to helping rebuild communities devastated by the recent wildfires in California. It was heartwarming to see so many different artists and others come together to help and uplift each other during such a horrible time. The music was incredible and the stories of everyone helping each other was inspiring. FireAid has extended the concert on streaming for a year so people can still watch it and donate.
One of my favorite performances was when Joni Mitchell sang "Both Sides Now". It was so emotional and such an appropriate song for what everyone is facing at this time. It was just as emotional when I first watched her sing it in the 1960s. This series of pine needle baskets was inspired not only by the music, but by the incredible acts of kindness and love that people have shown to each other. Amazing what can happen when people come together for the common good. I am hoping that my baskets will spread a little peace and love in the world.
I made my "Here Comes The Sun" pine needle basket using natural green Longleaf pine needles, sweetgrass, lime green and bright yellow artificial sinew, yellow and orange translucent sea glass round beads to let the light shine through, a bright green sea glass "Peace" pendant, and a colorful and cheerful "Here Comes The Sun" with a bright yellow sun ceramic basket base. This basket is 5-3/4" round by 2-1/2" tall.
I made my "Flower Child" pine needle basket using natural brown and dyed olive green Longleaf pine needles, sweetgrass, olive green Brazilian waxed poly cord, colorful magnesite heart beads, a sun with bright colored flowers and peace sign pottery connector bead and a multi-colored three dimensional flower clay and wood basket base. This basket is 4-1/4" round by 2" tall.
I made my "Love Bug" pine needle basket using several different colors of dyed Longleaf pine needles, red artificial sinew, a variety of colorful magnesite peace sign beads and a colorful VW Beetle (Bug) cars basket base. This basket is 6-1/2" long by 2-1/4" tall.
