One of my favorite basketmaking places is at our family cottage in the Georgian Bay area of Ontario, Canada. I am always inspired by what I see when I am there. It is fun to look for turtles, watch dragonflies fluttering in the sky, and pick wild blueberries. The turtles are so enjoyable to watch while they are warming themselves in the sun on the rocks. Often when I paddle by them, they will slowly slip back in the water as if they never saw me. It is fun to watch them swimming in the shallows, too. The colorful dragonflies are amusing to watch while they dart back and forth catching bugs. I am always happy to see them and grateful that they are eating mosquitoes! The wild blueberries in Ontario are a real treat. The wild low bush plants grow in between the rocks or in very little soil. It's a labor of love to pick the tiny berries, but they are so delicious. I often use the berries to make a blueberry pie or blueberry buckle, knowing that these tasty treats will be eaten up very quickly!
Turtle Lake
I made my "Turtle Lake" pine needle basket with natural brown Longleaf pine needles, tan artificial sinew, olive and white marble glass crow beads and a beautiful green and tan turtles pottery base. This basket is 4-1/2" round by 1-3/4" tall.
Fly Away
I made my "Fly Away" pine needle basket with dyed mauve and natural brown Longleaf pine needles, maroon waxed Brazilian poly cord and a colorful three-dimensional metallic blue and mauve dragonfly pottery base. This basket is 4-3/4" round by 2-1/4" tall.
Blueberry Bliss
I made my "Blueberry Bliss" pine needle basket with natural brown Longleaf pine needles, blue artificial sinew, blue lapis lazuli round beads and a blueberry pottery bowl base. This basket is 4" round by 2" tall.
ENJOY!
