Pine Needle Basketry by Vicki Phillips

Old St. Nick

I love watching musical Christmas specials and shows this time of year. I record them and often play them in the background while doing other things. With the darker and colder days, it is a great way to make it more cheerful around the house. I tend to get more creative in the wintertime and enjoy making a Christmas pine needle basket while enjoying all that this special season has to offer. The excitement and anticipation of the arrival of Old St. Nick (aka Santa Claus), who has spread so much joy for centuries, was the inspiration for this basket.

I made my "Old St. Nick" pine needle basket using dyed red and dyed greenish brown Longleaf pine needles, natural colored Irish waxed linen thread, brass bell beads that ring when shaken, and a beautiful old world three dimensional Santa pottery base. This basket measures approximately 4-1/4" round by 2-1/4" tall.

HO! HO! HO!

ENJOY!
