Cat's Meow

When I started this basket I was thinking about all of the cats and kittens that I have had over the years. As a matter of fact, I can only remember a brief period when I first moved to Gig Harbor that I didn't have a feline friend in my life. Some of my favorites were the talkative Siamese cats and kittens that put up with all the doll dresses and cardboard houses that I put them in, the Persian that was declawed and could still climb trees and win fights with other cats, the grey stray that hid in my car motor one morning and survived after being hit by the fan belt (he was never the same after that), the very cool black cat that was just so cool, the black and white cats with split personalities (never get a black and white cat) and my favorite two orange cats that continue to rule the house to this day. I also have learned that you never own a cat, they own you!

As this basket started to take shape, I started to think about the time my husband surprised me for my twenty-something birthday (before children) by taking me to the play Cats. When I walked into the theater another great surprise was that my good friend was sitting there with a big helium filled birthday balloon. We all learned very quickly that it wasn't a good idea to take a balloon to the theater, because it didn't make the people sitting behind us very happy. Also, it is very difficult to keep a helium filled balloon under your chair during a performance, especially a musical!

I was tempted to name this basket Memory, Macavity, Grizabella or Mr. Mistoffellees. However, when my husband saw the finished basket he suggested Cat's Meow, because he thought is was so sylish and reminded him of the throwback styles of the1920's. As you can see the name stuck!

I made this basket with natural brown and dyed blue Long Leaf pine needles, earthtone blue artificial sinew, blue goldstone chip, round and cat beads and a blue and gray agate center base. Enjoy!
